Chapter 11 - Mathematical Modeling

What is microworld?

A microworld is a tiny world in which students can test out hypothesis' they have and see how the things they try out might work out in the real world if the same situation were to play out. It is a safe way for students to see what might happen realistically, unlike a simulation it is meant for students to take seriously and act as if it were true.

  1. Having the opportunity to test out hypotheses is great for students. It means so much more to be hands-on than to just do the work and never test it out.

  2. It i kind of difficult to differentiate between microworlds and simulations, since both do not involve reality. But I think you explained it well, students are supposed to assume the microworld situation is true.
