What role can rubrics play in lesson assessment?
Rubrics are an essential tool in education because they let students know what is expected of them and allow them to understand how the teacher will be assessing their work. When students are well aware of what they need to be doing they are more likely to successfully complete an assignment and can gain knowledge effectively because they are more informed. Rubrics are also a great tool for teachers because they act as a checklist and make it easier for teachers to grade and specifically see what the students have missed.
Well-designed rubrics can be a great tool for scoring nontraditional assessments, since students can be aware of what goal they are working towards. If they are able to see the rubric first, then they can know what the teacher expects from them for a particular learning objective, as you have said.
